Roland W-30 LCD repair

The single most common problem with the venerable W-30 is a faded and difficult to read LCD. Robert McColley has much knowledge of the W-30 and has generously provided information about the LCD issues. He can be contacted directly at tigra@bellsouth.net. Apparently, the most common failure is not the LCD screen itself, but the backlight bulb. These are NLA from Roland, but can be purchased from Robert directly for $23.00 plus shipping. He has custom comissioned replicas to retrofit your W-30. The repair itself is somewhat involved, because the W-30 must be almost completely disassembled in order to replace the bulbs. There is some soldering involved as well.

  1. 1. To order your replacement bulb, contact Robert at tigra@bellsouth.net.
  2. 2. For a DIY guide created by Robert, please click here (pdf file) or here (text file).

If you feel uncomfortable attempting this repair, then please contact a qualified service shop.
