  • Wann wurde die W-30 produziert? Von 1989 bis in die frühen 90er.
  • Kann das Handbuch noch bestellt werden? Ja.
B. SGROUP (S50, S-550 and S-330 Diskettenarchiv, kompatibel zur W-30)
  • Mein LCD ist dunkel, kann es repariert werden? Ja, siehe hier
  • Any issues with firmware levels in the Zips? Or is any 100Meg Zip OK as long as it is SCSI? As for SCSI media, the ZIP is certainly a good choice if only because the media is cheap and available. I have not been able to boot the W30 from the zip drive. Currently, I'm using a Syquest EZ-135 (which I can boot from, although I must usually turn on and off the W30's power several times), but that's only because I had the thing lying around. I would not recommend trying to track one down. I think there is probably more hype around the "compatible" drives list than substance. I'd be willing to bet the W30 should format most old SCSI drives you throw at it, although I haven't tried this... The ZIP is cool, and while not bootable, you can have a bunch of different ZIPs with sounds on them and switch them as necessary. An old external SCSI hard drive (like an 80Meg) costs about $15 on eBay. You may be able to boot off it, but once it's full, your done. I'd suggest using a ZIP drive, since you'll never run out of space, and then buy an old hard drive later on so you can hopefully use it to boot the W30, which is much much faster than a floppy. Remember, no matter what you buy, the W30 can only format up to 80 Meg. The ZIP is 100 Meg, so not much is wasted but a 9.1 Gig hard drive would be quite a bit of overkill. One last thing. I have a Roland manual that refers to SCSI as a "black art" meaning simply that with these samplers, it really can be hit or miss. eBay is a great source for crappy old SCSI drives. If the W30 refuses to recognize it, just resell it. Chances are the W30 will work with it just fine. Look for WORKING 80 and 100 meg drives which are probably about the same age as your W30.
